BOSTON, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Three of the jurors who helped convict Alfred Trenkler for a 1991 deadly bombing in Boston say the imprisoned man should receive a retrial.
Sheridan Kassirer, who served as the forewoman for the jury, has asked U.S. District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel to either release Trenkler of grant him a new trial, The Boston Globe said Monday.
"After studying the many details of the Alfred W. Trenkler case I am convinced that he is innocent," Kassirer said in a letter to Zobel. "I hope you will see to it that justice prevails and he is released."
Kassirer has been joined in her retrial cause by Marcia Lapson and Theresa Spinelli, who also served as jurors in Trenkler's 1993 trial.
Trenkler was convicted of creating a bomb that ultimately killed Boston Police Officer Jeremiah J. Hurley Jr.
Hurley's wife, Cynthia, told the Globe while she had sympathy for the jurors' regrets, she remains convinced of Trenkler's guilt.
"I feel bad that these jurors have second thoughts because in my heart, I do believe that he's guilty," she said. "Let my poor husband rest in peace."
