U.N., Serbia officials to meet on Kosovo

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A senior U.N. official and Serbian leaders will have discussions later this month on Kosovo's break from Serbia, the United Nations said Thursday.

The organization's Special Representative for Kosovo Lamberto Zannier accepted an invitation to meet with Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic in Belgrade later this month, the United Nations said in a news release.

Discussions would raise a range of issues relating to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's recent report to the U.N. Security Council in which he stressed the need for a reconfiguration of U.N. mission in Kosovo after it declared independence from Serbia in February 2008, the organization said. Serbia rejected Kosovo's declaration.

The United Nations has been neutral on the status of Kosovo since its declaration of independence.
