BRUSSELS, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The European Parliament passed a Kosovo resolution Thursday that approves the deployment of European Union forces in the troubled republic, an official says.
Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said the Kosovo resolution was unacceptable given that it asks all EU countries to recognize the republic's independence from Serbia, the broadcaster B-92 reported.
"The EP is not an institution charged by the EU to deal with foreign policy. The Council of Ministers deals with foreign policy on behalf of the EU and, within the council, there are countries that recognize Kosovo as an independent state and others that do not. Therefore, the EU is divided within the institution that is legally tasked with this issue," Jeremic said.
The EU Observer said the remaining EU members that have not officially recognized Kosovo's independence are Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.
Following Thursday's vote, which ended 424-133 in favor of the Kosovo resolution, the European Parliament asked the international community to support the approved European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo.
