BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The police chief in Boulder, Colo., says his department is reopening its investigation into the 1996 slaying of JonBenet Ramsey.

The Boulder Police Department has begun a new investigation into the death of the 6-year-old girl and has formed a squad of veteran officers to take another look at the evidence.

The Denver Post said Tuesday that advances in DNA and linguistics may lead to a new breakthrough.

"We'd love to solve this case for JonBenet so that she can rest in peace, which has been our focus and our goal all along," Police Chief Mark Beckner said Monday.

JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the basement of her family's upscale in what appeared to have been a botched kidnapping attempt. Her parents came under suspicion; however, no indictments were ever issued.
