PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The trial of an Oregon couple charged with manslaughter for failing to get medical treatment for their 15-month-old daughter has been postponed until June.
Carl and Raylene Worthington of Oregon City were to go on trial this week, The (Portland) Oregonian reported. The trial was postponed because a defense witness was unavailable.
The couple are members of the Followers of Christ Church, which believes in faith healing. When their daughter, Ava, developed bacterial pneumonia and a blood infection last year, they did not take her to a doctor, who would have treated the infections with antibiotics.
Jeffrey and Marci Beagley, relatives of the Worthingtons, are charged with criminally negligent homicide for the death of their son, Neil, 16, from a blocked urinary tract. The Beagleys were to go on trial June 23, but that date has now been reserved for the Worthingtons with the Beagleys to be tried later.
