NEW DELHI, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Indian Commerce Minister Kamal Nath will seek to expand his country's role in international finance at this week's World Economic Forum, officials said.
Nath will likely discuss how India can play a greater role in lifting the world economy from its current downturn during the five-day summit in Davos, Switzerland, which begins Wednesday, the Press Trust of India reported Sunday.
At the meeting, Nath will engage in bilateral talks with his counterparts from the United States, the European Union, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Thailand and New Zealand, PTI reported.
Besides Nath, India will also send Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and a delegation of corporate leaders to the WEF.
The summit comes at a time when India is intensely debating corporate governance and transparency issues in the wake of the Satyam Computer Services Ltd., scandal, in which company Chairman Ramalinga Raju resigned this month after notifying officials he had falsified the company's accounts, the news agency said.
