Ex-oil executive's home fire-bombed

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- The tony Canadian home of a former oil industry executive was fire-bombed during the weekend, authorities said.

Jim Carter, who was away with his wife when their house in Edmonton was destroyed, said he was "quite bewildered," to learn Molotov cocktails had been tossed against his house Saturday, the Edmonton Journal reported Monday.

Carter was president and chief operating officer of Syncrude Canada, an oil sands operation, until 2007. The arson follows recent bomb attacks against oil and gas equipment in British Columbia, although authorities had no evidence tying the incidents together, the newspaper said.

No one was hurt in the weekend blaze but the damage was estimated at $850,000.

The Journal said a witness told police four youths ran away from the burning house. No arrests had been made.
