LOD, Israel, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Former Israeli President Moshe Katsav could be charged with rape, police sources told Ynetnews.

The sources said Katsav, a Knesset member, was confronted Friday by his accuser, a former secretary identified only as "A," at the Police Economic Crimes Unit headquarters in Lod, Israel, Ynetnews reported.

The investigation into rape allegations made by Katsav's former female co-worker has been completed. The sources said there is substantial evidence to support rape charges, Ynetnews said.

The State Prosecutor's Office is expected to receive police recommendations in the case soon, leaving prosecutors to decide what charges Katsav could face.

One of Katsav's aides said the woman's allegations contradicted defense claims "A" continued to contact Katsav after the alleged incident occurred, Ynetnews reported.

"The difficulties and the contradiction, as detailed in the secret part of the State Prosecutor's Office statement, grow stronger in light of everything that happened during the confrontation," the aide told Ynetnews.
