Cell phone helps woman, 82, out of well

SWANZEY, N.H., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- An 82-year-old New Hampshire woman was lucky she had her cell phone with her when she fell down a 12-foot well and couldn't get up.

Frannie Guion of Swanzey stumbled into the well Sunday afternoon as she hung up the wash, WMUR-TV in Manchester reported. Guion immediately dialed 911 on her phone, and 20 emergency workers from Swanzey and Keene arrived at her home within a few minutes.

"I think it was just a miracle we were able to get the call and help her," Swanzey fire Chief Norm Skantze told WMUR.

Rescue workers placed a tripod over the mouth of the well and used it to lower someone down to place an oversize belt around Guion. She was out in less than 20 minutes.

Josh Guion, Frannie's grandson, said she is in good shape for her age. But he said she would have been unlikely to survive a night in the well.
