TILLAMOOK, Ore., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A 45-year-old man says that before he could propose to his girlfriend at Oregon's Proposal Rock she was swept into the Pacific Ocean by a large wave.
Scott Napper of Silverton, Ore., said a wave at least 2-feet high pulled 22-year-old Leafil Alforque into the ocean, The Oregonian reported.
"I turned into it to keep from getting pulled under it," Napper said.
Napper said the 93-pound woman was quickly 30 feet away and disappeared before he had a chance to reach her.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene within minutes -- on Saturday -- but there was so sign of Alforque, who had arrived from the Philippines three days earlier on a fiancee visa.
The two had met online and agreed to be married, but Napper said he wanted to make their engagement official with a proposal.
The search for Alforque was called off Monday.
Sheriff Todd Anderson told the Oregonian that foul play is not suspected.
