Lieberman: Obama moves near 'perfect'

HARTFORD, Conn., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Ind-Conn., says U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's post-election transition moves have been "just about perfect."

Speaking to reporters for the first time since Obama's Nov. 4 election victory, former Democrat Lieberman, who campaigned for Republican U.S. presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, sounded more like a member of his old party, praising Obama's approach to the economic crisis, the Hartford Courant reported Wednesday.

"Everything that President-elect Obama has done since election night has been just about perfect, both in terms of tone" and substance, Lieberman told reporters Tuesday.

But as he did during a Sunday appearance on the "Meet the Press" television show, Lieberman said he regretted, but refused to apologize, for his vocal attacks on Obama at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., last September and on the campaign trail.

"In the heat of the campaign, I said some things about President-elect Obama that I could have said more clearly," Lieberman told the Courant. "And I said a couple of things that I wish I hadn't said at all."
