BIRMINGHAM, England, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old girl in the British town of Shrewsbury says it is "scary" being the youngest mother of conjoined twins on record in Britain.
Laura Williams said while she was initially advised to terminate her pregnancy, she decided to move forward and is now hoping her decision results in happy lives for all involved, The Daily Mail said Wednesday.
"It's scary every day and it's been the hardest decision of our lives, but if they're meant to be in this world and if they've come this far, we've got to hope they'll make it the rest of the way," she said after Wednesday's birth.
Now Williams and her husband, Aled, must wait to see if their children, Faith and Hope, survive the first 24 hours of life that are so vital to conjoined twins.
The Mail said nearly 5 percent of all conjoined twins survive beyond their first day of birth. Doctors are optimistic in Williams' case since her children are conjoined at the front.
