BOLTON, England, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- An English teenager who filmed himself boasting of an assault on an Asian man that triggered a fatal asthma attack was sentenced Thursday to at least 13 years.
Andrew Smith, who was 15 at the time of the attack, and Jason Bolton, 18, received life sentences, The Daily Mail reported. Justice Alistair MacDuff said they were "out to enjoy an evening of violence" inflicted on anyone but their pleasure was heightened because the victim, Asaf Mahmood Ahmed, was Asian.
"You took a video of yourself saying the eyes of a killer," MacDuff told Smith. "I have tried to find a word for the tone of your voice, that tone is pride."
Ahmed was assaulted as he walked to a store in Bolton, Lancashire, to buy a can of soda. Smith and Bolton chased him behind a building, where Ahmed tried to escape through a fire door, and then knocked him down and stomped him.
Ahmed's inhaler was kicked out of his hand.
When police went to Smith's home, they found him sleeping on a sofa and a 7-second clip on his cell phone of boasting that he had "the eyes of a killer."
