More pills found in Halloween candy

PICKERING, Ontario, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Police in a community east of Toronto are investigating two more discoveries of cold pills found in boxes of Halloween candies.

Since Nov. 5, seven tampered boxes of Smarties candies have been turned in to Durham Regional Police in Pickering, Sgt. Paul McCurbin told the Toronto Sun.

Smarties are similar to M&M pill-sized candy-covered chocolate. In each case, the small boxes contained DayQuil capsules, an over-the-counter cold medication, McCurbin said.

All of the discoveries were made in one neighborhood and McCurbin said there had been no reports of children ingesting the drugs.

He said detectives have been canvassing the neighborhood and the candy manufacturer, Nestle, is assisting in the tampering probe.

Most puzzling is that all of the boxes were sealed when the children opened them, although investigators said they don't suspect the pills were added in the manufacturing or packaging process, the Sun said.
