Boy saves classmate with Heimlich maneuver

NEW YORK, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old New York boy who "takes in information" and retains it, used his knowledge of the Heimlich maneuver to save a classmate's life, his father said.

Keith Johnson Sr. of Ronkonkoma., N.Y., said his son, Keith Jr., was able to save a choking classmate due to a Heimlich maneuver poster he once saw in a Dunkin' Donuts store, the New York Post said Wednesday.

"We didn't even know he knew how to do it," the proud father said. "He just takes in information wherever he is."

Keith Jr. downplayed saving the life of his friend Friday in his school's cafeteria, saying he was happy he was able to help remove the offending food from his friend's throat.

"They told me I did a good thing," he said. "I was happy my friend was OK."
