White House: No surprises about bin Laden

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- The capture of Osama bin Laden, or any other surprise, isn't expected before Tuesday's U.S. presidential election, a White House spokesman said Friday.

"I'm not aware of any surprises coming up," said Tony Fratto when asked whether the administration had any plans afoot to capture bin Laden before Election Day.

On the stump and in debates, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said he would launch an attack against al-Qaida and bin Laden if intelligence about the terrorist leader's whereabouts were credible and verifiable. Bin Laden is suspected of living in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.

"But certainly we're looking for -- for anyone involved in -- in terrorism in that region," Fratto said.
