BEIJING, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- An elevator at a construction site in China's eastern Fujian Province fell to the ground Thursday, killing 12 people.
The incident occurred in the province's Xiapu County, Xinhua reported, quoting provincial safety authorities. Details of the accident weren't immediately available.
Work place accidents, especially in mines, plants and construction areas, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people every year have become common in China as the country's economic growth continues to outpace safety standards, the BBC reported.
The report said earlier this week 11 people died and another 12 were injured in Chongqing in southwest China after their crane container fell to the ground at a building site.
