SYDNEY, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- An Australian family claims they were served free gelato mixed with human excrement after they complained about the food at a Sydney restaurant.
Stephen and Jessica Whyte told The Sydney Morning Herald they plan to sue the Coogee Bay Hotel.
The Whytes said they ate at the restaurant three weeks ago with their sons. When they complained about the price of the food and the behavior of restaurant staff, they were offered a complimentary dessert.
Jessica Whyte, the first one to taste the gelato, said it had a bad taste and smell and she began feeling sick almost immediately. The family then got into an argument with employees and took a sample of the gelato for testing.
Stephen Whyte said the "final straw" was the restaurant owner assuming during a conversation last week that they were trying to get money and offering him a few thousand dollars.
General Manager Tony Williams said he was "extremely suspicious" of the Whytes' claims, given the amount of money they are seeking.
