Police say patient killed himself

LONDON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A 63-year-old patient drew the curtain around his bed before fatally shooting himself Monday, hospital officials in Northampton, England, said.

The man, whose name was not released, killed himself in a 6-bed ward at Northampton General Hospital filled with patients, visitors and medical personnel, the Daily Mail reported.

The man had been a patient for several weeks, though it was not known how long he had been in possession of the handgun found by his body, the British newspaper reported.

No one else was injured, said hospital officials who evacuated the ward immediately after the shooting.
