CHICAGO, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The sheriff of Cook County, Ill., says he will end his prohibition on foreclosure evictions now that area renters are better protected under the law.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said starting Monday, he will again enforce foreclosure evictions thanks to the addition of court document language that requires landlords to have properly informed their renters of a foreclosure, the Chicago Sun-Times said Friday.
Dart began a self-imposed prohibition on all foreclosure evictions this month, alleging many area renters hadn't been sufficiently notified of an impending foreclosure.
Dart said the new language added to corresponding court orders would ensure such individuals are not forced from their homes without warning.
The sheriff also told the Sun-Times that a social worker will be on hand to offer assistance to those renters removed from their homes following proper notification.
The Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald said Dart credited Cook County Chancery Division Presiding Judge Dorothy Kinnaird with helping him facilitate the use of new forms requiring the advancing warning in all foreclosures.
