LONDON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A record apple harvest in England is being welcomed by Britain's cider makers, observers say.
This year's apple harvest is 20 percent larger than last year's take, The Daily Mail reported Friday.
But not all is rosy for Britain's cider industry since the cold and wet summer could mean reduced sugar levels in the fruits, which could complicate the fermentation process.
"Cider makers are used to challenges and gathering a record harvest will be a challenge they welcome given the growing demand for cider," said Simon Russell of the National Association of Cider Makers. "If we could have some autumn sunshine in the next few weeks it would be very welcome to help ripen the apples and to make it easier to get in and out of the orchards."
