Two more bodies found in Ike aftermath

GALVESTON, Texas, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Two bodies believed to be victims of Hurricane Ike have been found in a marshy area near the Bolivar Peninsula of Galveston, Texas, officials said.

Galveston County Sheriff's Office spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said teams of searchers found the bodies of a man and a woman Saturday afternoon, but their identities were not known, The Galveston County (Texas) Daily News reported.

The bodies were found in an area known as Goat Island, marshland that was once connected to the Bolivar Peninsula before an intercoastal canal was created. The only way to reach it is by airboat, authorities said.

John Florence, a spokesman for the county's medical examiner's office, said the two victims found Saturday were the 13th and 14th bodies recovered in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike's storm surge, which made landfall near Galveston early on Sept. 13.
