4 family members killed in trailer fire

SNOHOMISH, Wash., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A fire in a trailer in Washington state killed two women and two girls, all members of the same family early Tuesday.

The girls, both school age, were the daughters of one of the women, who were sisters, The Seattle Times reported.

Sherree Simpson, manager of the mobile home park, said the women moved in last weekend, and she did not know them well. The family had lived in an apartment in Snohomish, 24 miles north of Seattle.

A cousin said the sisters came to the United States four years ago from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Deputy Fire Chief Ron Simmons said the cause of the fire was under investigation. He said the trailer had a wood-burning stove and an electric heater.

Mobile home fires are sometimes started because they are fitted with appliances their electric systems were not designed to handle, he said.

"Mobile homes are notorious for being big ovens," said Simmons.
