Boy, 13, fights for makeup rights

HAMILTON, Ohio, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- A Hamilton, Ohio, mother says her son is being discriminated against by school officials who have banned him from wearing makeup to school.

Mindy Ball said her son, Matt Allsup, 13, was confronted by administrators at Garfield Middle School after he showed up for classes wearing black eye makeup, lipstick and fingernail polish, WCPO-TV, Cincinnati, reported Thursday.

"They're gender stereotyping. He's being sexually discriminated against. Nowhere in the rules does it say that males can't wear makeup" Ball said.

"When I spoke to the principal," Ball said, "she told me it was distracting because of the black makeup and I said, 'Well, I'll get him pink,' and she said no, because he's a male, he's not allowed to wear it, the public don't accept males wearing make-up."

Ball said she plans to have an attorney take her son's case to court.
