Israel breaks up Jerusalem terror cell

JERUSALEM, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Israeli security officials say they have broken up an East Jerusalem terrorist cell responsible for killing two border guards.

Police and Shin Bet, the Israeli intelligence service, arrested seven Arabs, including six from East Jerusalem, whom they say were part of a cell that also was plotting an assassination, a kidnapping and a shooting attack, Ynetnews reported Wednesday.

Jerusalem District Prosecution filed indictments against the men Sept. 14, blaming them for this year's deaths of Border Guards David Shriki and Rami Zuari. Prosecutors allege the men also were planning to kill a Jerusalem police officer and carry out a shooting attack on a bus station.

Officials told Ynetnews terror plots emanating from East Jerusalem are on the rise with security services thwarting seven planned attacks in the capital in recent months.
