WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Congress will begin work on a measure to provide federal aid to victims Hurricane Ike, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday.
The California Democrat said a disaster relief package would address housing needs, cleanup and infrastructure restoration, The Hill reported. Also included would be money for other recent disasters, such as California wildfires, Midwest flooding and Hurricane Gustav.
"The devastation caused by Hurricane Ike demands a swift federal response," Pelosi said. "Congress will move quickly to pass emergency disaster assistance funds to help those in Texas and other states affected by this tragedy."
