Palin's foreign policy experience debated

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lacks foreign policy bona fides, said a supporter of Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said Palin's recent ABC interview showed the first-term governor lacks the foreign policy experience to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

"She really had almost no grasp of America's foreign policy. She really knew very little about domestic policy," Wasserman said in an appearance on the CBS Sunday news program "Face the Nation."

U.S. Sen. Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, a McCain supporter, noted that four of the last presidents have been governors with little or no foreign policy experience.

"But they, like Sarah Palin, read the newspapers. They have a working knowledge of our place in the world and what we should be doing," Hutchison said. "So I don't think the fact that she hasn't been to the Middle East yet is a factor."
