FOLSOM, Calif., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. Green Party leader Peter Miguel Camejo, Ralph Nader's 2004 vice presidential running mate, has died of lymphoma in California at age 68.
Camejo, a three-time Green Party candidate for governor in California, died Saturday at his home in Folsom, Calif., with his wife, Morella, by his side, the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee reported Sunday.
Camejo, born in Queens, N.Y., was a pioneer in the move to create investment funds emphasizing fair treatment of workers and environmental conservation.
Camejo earned a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT college entrance exam and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., but quit before graduation to become a civil rights activist in the American South. He later was expelled from the University of California, Berkeley, for his role in campus protests against the Vietnam War.
"Everyone who met Peter, talked with Peter, worked with Peter, or argued with Peter will miss the passing of a great American," Nader told the Bee.
