LONDON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- An Islamic youth group in Britain is condemning a computer game called Muslim Massacre that can be downloaded for free on the Internet.
Leaders of the Ramadhan Foundation said they were angered by the availability of the computer game, available since January, which they contend glorifies the killing of Muslims in the Middle East. In a statement Tuesday, they urged Internet service providers to remove the game's Web site from their services "as it incites violence toward Muslims and is trying to justify the killing of innocent Muslims."
The group also has written to the British government, urging the site be shut down.
"Encouraging children and young people in a game to kill Muslims is unacceptable, tasteless and deeply offensive," said Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the foundation.
He said if there were a game featuring Muslims killing Israelis or Americans "there would be uproar and rightly so."
The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday the game's designer, identified as Eric Vaugn, a freelance programmer from the United States living in Brisbane, Australia, who goes by the name Sigvatr, called the game "fun and funny" in a post on a message board and said some players have interpreted it as a critical commentary of U.S. foreign policy.
