Former congressional aide indicted

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A former aide to a California congressman has been indicted on corruption charges, officials said.

Kevin Ring, a former senior aide to Republican Rep. John Doolittle, was indicted on charges related to his involvement with disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Ring was arrested Monday, The Hill reported.

Ring left Doolittle's office and went on to work for Abramoff. He is accused of conspiring with Abramoff to bribe government officials. Abramoff was sentenced last week to four years in prison for the conspiracy.

The newspaper reported that other indictments could be in the works.

For his part, Doolittle remains under federal investigation for his ties to Abramoff. The 11-term congressman from Northern California is not seeking re-election.
