NICOSIA, Cyprus, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders met in the divided capital of Nicosia to discuss the island's 34-year political division.
Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat met Wednesday in a U.N. buffer zone in Nicosia to lay the foundation for resuming unification talks, the Voice of America reported Thursday.

The two-hour meeting proved fruitful enough for Christofias and Talat to agree to meet again Sept. 11., the VOA reported.
The island of Cyprus has been divided between a Greek south and a Turkish north since 1974 after Turkey invaded in response to a coup aimed at uniting the island with Greece, the VOA reported.
