DETROIT, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is looking at a six-month prison term if he pleads guilty to corruption charges, sources say.
The latest sentencing deal being offered by Wayne County Attorney Kym Worthy on a "take-it-or-leave-it" basis would include a 180-day sentence, up from a 120-day offer made last week, unnamed sources told the Detroit Free Press.
Worthy is telling Kilpatrick's lawyer that the jail sentence will keep getting longer the longer he delays pleading guilty to several felony counts, the newspaper said. Kilpatrick and his lawyers, meanwhile, have been fighting for a deal that would include straight probation to settle charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and misuse of office.
The prosecutor has also indicated that all plea bargains are off the table if Kilpatrick decides to go to trial, the newspaper said.
