KINGS PARK, N.Y., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Lemonade sales have helped increase to $15,000 the reward for the capture of the killer of a pet goat in New York, officials said.
The goat, Teddy, was found dead with a belt around its neck on a Kings Park farm last month. A second goat, Pinky, is missing from the farm.
Fundraising efforts, like that of Annemarie Maag's son, are leading to renewed hope that Teddy's killer will be found, Newsday reported Tuesday.
Roy Gross, spokesman for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said Maag, of Kings Park, came to him with news of her son's lemonade stand.
"When asked why the kids did such a nice thing, they responded, 'We felt it wasn't right to do what those people did and it made us sad because we love animals,'" Gross said.
The goat had been a pet of caretakers on a Kings Park farm when it was stolen.
Teddy "was so friendly he would have gone with anyone who offered to walk him," Gross said
