Report: Rice to visit Libya in September

WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Bush administration officials told CNN Tuesday that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would visit Libya in September.

The trip will be the highest-level visit to Libya by a U.S. official in more than 30 years.

Rice will meet with Moammar Gadhafi in the wake of a sudden turnaround in relations between the two nations that resulted in an agreement earlier this month that compensates victims of terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens.

CNN said the improved relations would lead to an exchange of ambassadors and possible U.S. aid to the North African nation.
