Unidentified bodies found off Florida Keys

MIAMI, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Authorities say they are mystified by four unidentified bodies found in the waters off the upper Florida Keys.

The corpses had likely been drifting for several days with their origin and cause of death still unclear, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Sunday. Autopsies are scheduled for this week.

The first body was found by a lobster fisherman Thursday evening floating near Long Key State Park, about 30 miles south of Key Largo. Despite shark bites, investigators were able to determine the remains were that of a man. A ring on his left hand may help identify the body.

On Friday, another lobster fisherman found a second body drifting nearly a mile east of Indian Key, about 25 miles south of Key Largo. The body could not immediately be determined to be that of a man or a woman.

Later that day, the bodies of two men were pulled from the water by authorities. One was about 10 miles south of Key Largo while the other was discovered near Elbow Reef, a popular diving and snorkeling site.
