The 37-year-old Texas man had been working in the small town as a roofer. He was convicted in Grayson County, Texas, of aggravated sexual contact with three young children, Milstead said.

Hightower had been sentenced to serve three 20-year prison terms, but fled during his sentencing.

The contractor for whom Hightower was working said he had no idea his employee was a fugitive, the newspaper said.

Hightower was being held in the Minnehaha County Jail, awaiting extradition to Texas.
