DETROIT, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick visited the home of his mother, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., Saturday, sources said.
Earlier this week, Judge Ronald Giles jailed the embattled mayor for violating the terms of his bond in his perjury case by taking a trip to Windsor, Canada, and not notifying the court. He was released Friday.
The Detroit News reported Saturday that the mayor's sister, Ayanna Kilpatrick -- a magistrate has barred the mayor from having contact with her because she is a potential witnesses in an assault case involving the mayor -- was the only person seen coming in and out the home while Kilpatrick was inside.
Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox on Friday filed assault charges against Kilpatrick, one day after he spent the night in jail.
The alleged assault involving the mayor occurred at the home of Ayanna Kilpatrick July 24 while investigators were looking to serve a subpoena on Bobby Ferguson, a friend of the mayor.
Kilpatrick allegedly grabbed Wayne County Deputy Brian White by the shoulders and pushed him into his partner, JoAnn Kinney, the newspaper reported.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, with perjury and obstruction of justice in March.
