WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush will sign the Consumer Produce Safety Commission bill passed by Congress once he gets it, a White House spokeswoman said Thursday.

"We are committed to ensuring that the products that come into America are safe for consumers and that the regulating agencies have what they need in order to do their job," White House press secretary Dana Perino said during a press briefing.

The bill would reform the Consumer Product Safety Commission and includes a ban on lead in children's products, among other things.

She said the White House was pleased that Congress had included some of its provisions and drew from the action plan for import safety that Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt put forward.

"We still have a few concerns, but not enough that would keep us from signing the bill," she said. "So the president will sign that as soon as they can get it to us.
