Floating body found, considered homicide

KEY WEST, Fla., July 20 (UPI) -- Police say they are considering a woman's death a homicide after her body was found in the Atlantic Ocean near the Florida Keys.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office labeled the case a homicide because the woman had a "heavy object" weighing her down and her wrists, waist and neck were tied, The Miami Herald reported Sunday.

"There is no definitive cause of death,'' police spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Two tourists spotted the floating corpse Thursday while fishing on a water craft, the newspaper said.

''It was relatively shallow water and very, very clear so you could see very well,'' said David Dipre, a Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission Officer.

The Herald said officials have examined the body and are waiting for test results to learn more about the cause of death.
