Man executed for killing adoptive parents

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, July 11 (UPI) -- A 28-year-old man went to his death Thursday in Texas, apologizing for killing his adoptive parents almost 10 years ago.

Carlton Akee Turner died by lethal injection just after 6 p.m. in the death chamber at the state prison in Huntsville, the Huntsville Item reported.

Turner was convicted in 1999 of killing Carlton and Tonya Turner, hiding their bodies in the garage of their home outside Dallas and then using their credit cards and cash, driving their cars and inviting his friends over. Police found the bodies after concerned neighbors reported the couple had not been seen for several days.

"First of all, I'd like to tell my uncle Kyle that I'm sorry, and I've been sorry for the last 10 years," Turner said addressing his last remarks to his mother's brother, Kyle Johnson. "I wish you could accept my apology, but I know I can't even ask for your forgiveness. I take this penalty as a man, but this doesn't solve anything. I've done what I could to help the rest of the family. I was wrong, but I am still your nephew no matter what you believe, and I love you."

Turner was the second person executed in Texas this year and the 407th since 1982.
