Mrs. Obama, children to be more visible

WASHINGTON, July 1 (UPI) -- Michelle Obama says she and her family will be more visible in the U.S. presidential campaign now that school is out for the summer.

In an interview with Gannett News Service Tuesday, Mrs. Obama said the rigors of the campaign trail would be turned into family time for their daughters, ages 7 and 9.

At the same time, she said, the family routine would be maintained as best as possible.

"We don't pull them out of their world," she said. "Our kids thrive on stability and consistency."

Once school starts, however, Natasha and Malia Ann will get back to the books.

Michelle Obama also stressed that she did not want to become a "distraction" to her husband, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee.
