Canadian woman goes online for kidney

VICTORIA, British Columbia, June 28 (UPI) -- A woman in the Canadian province of British Columbia says she is searching the Internet for a new kidney for her husband.

Lois Wilson said she began looking for the organ for her husband Dave on Craigslist.com after a friend suggested the online marketplace, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

"It's body parts but I'm not selling them," Wilson said. "I wrote: 'My husband needs a kidney and I have O negative blood. If you have A positive (and need a kidney for an O negative person) I'm willing to trade.'"

With the Kidney Foundation of Canada saying more than 30,000 Canadians are waiting for a kidney transplant or need dialysis, Dave Wilson sees little alternative.

We'll try anything," he told the CBC. "The problem with transplants is there is a seven-year waiting list. I'm 70 now. By 77 I might not be around."

British Columbia Transplant Agency official Ken Donohue said the online posting is not illegal either.

"She's not really doing anything illegal -- there's already a process in place," he said.
