Diabetic hits 16 cars on interstate

SALT, Utah, June 26 (UPI) -- A Salt Lake City man in diabetic shock hit 16 cars on two interstate highways, though no severe damage was caused.

Police said the 61-year-old man was headed south on Interstate 15 about 4 p.m. Wednesday when he began swerving slowly and hitting cars. He continued to Interstate 80 and was finally stopped when another car herded him off the highway, reported the Salt Lake Tribune Thursday. The man was cited for improper lane usage and reckless driving.

The only injuries involved a 10-year-old boy who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Utah Trooper Cameron Roden said. He described diabetic shock as producing reactions similar to drunken driving.
