Reporter charged with briefcase gun

PITTSBURGH, June 17 (UPI) -- A radio reporter in Pittsburgh was charged with possession of a firearm without a license after being caught at a courthouse with a loaded gun in his briefcase.

William Robert Milford, who uses the name Rob Milford at KDKA, was arrested Monday morning at the Allegheny County Courthouse, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Deputies said they found the gun when his briefcase set off a metal detector.

Milford said he had forgotten the weapon was in his briefcase, Sheriff Bill Mullen said. Mullen said the gun was not registered to Milford and would not identify the registered owner.

Marshall Adams, the program director at KDKA, said the station was not testing security at the courthouse.

Milford, according to his biography on the KDKA Web site, is an experienced reporter who has worked in a number of cities, covered five major hurricanes in 2005 and has reported from Iraq.

Last Thursday, a witness in a homicide trial was arrested when deputies found a loaded handgun in her purse.
