Hunt on for missing hedge fund manager

NEW YORK, June 13 (UPI) -- Investigators are looking for a missing New York hedge fund manager or his body after his car was discovered on a bridge over the Hudson River.

No trace of Samuel Israel III has surfaced since Monday, CNN reported.

Israel was supposed to surrender Monday at a federal prison in Massachusetts to begin serving a 20-year term for stealing $450 million from clients of his company, Bayou Hedge Fund. Police say that he left Armonk, N.Y., at 9 a.m., telling his girlfriend he was on his way to the prison.

At 12:30 p.m., his car was found on the Bear Mountain Bridge, 30 miles from Armonk, keys in the ignition and a message, "Suicide is painless," written in dust on the hood.

Israel clearly wanted investigators to believe he jumped from the bridge, but they have no proof he did, the report said. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The bridge has security cameras, but their quality is poor and they have provided no definitive proof one way or another.
