2 Oklahoma girls slain

WELEETKA, Okla., June 9 (UPI) -- Authorities Monday were trying to determine who fatally shot two girls whose bodies were found along a rural Oklahoma road.

The slain girls were identified as Skyla Whitaker, 11, and Taylor Paschal-Placker, 13, The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City reported. Paschal-Packer's father found their bodies Sunday near Weleetka in Okfuskee County, about one mile from Paschal-Packer's home, the newspaper said.

The girls had gone out for a walk during a sleepover, authorities said.

County sheriff's officials said they had some leads but no official suspects, KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City reported. Investigators said they think whoever was responsible was probably from the area and may have killed the girls because they saw something they weren't supposed to see, the TV station said.

Stan Florence, an investigator with the Oklahoma Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said the girls, found fully clothed, were both shot more than once.

"They were little girls, what possible motive could there be?" Okfuskee County Sheriff Jack Choate asked. "You have to wonder, did they see something they were not supposed to? Were they at the wrong place at the wrong time?"
