KHARTOUM, Sudan, June 5 (UPI) -- The International Criminal Court's lead prosecutor says he will name Sudanese leaders he says were involved in violence against citizens in the Darfur region.
Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said he will offer the names of the officials and evidence he has against them to the court in July, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
Moreno-Ocampo also was to outline his investigation to the U.N. Security Council Thursday.
"Women and girls are raped. Victims are as young as 5 or 6 years old. Parents are forced to watch," he said in his report. "This is not an incidental byproduct of war. It is a calculated crime, intended to do irreparable damage to communities."
Sudan's U.S. ambassador, Abdalmahmoud Abdalhaleem Mohamed, said the allegations were "fictitious and vicious."
Still at large are two men against whom the ICC issued arrest warrants more than a year ago, Moreno-Ocampo told the Post. Accused of war crimes are Ahmad Harun, Sudan's minister of state for humanitarian affairs, and Ali Kushayb, a Janjaweed commander. Janjaweed, Arab militia, are main players in the Darfur crisis.
Moreno-Ocampo said Harun was responsible for the detention, torture and killing of Darfur community leaders in refugee camps.
