Officials seize 8,000 pairs of fake Nikes

OAKLAND, Calif., June 4 (UPI) -- California customs officials said they found 8,000 pairs of phony Nike athletic shoes at the Port of Oakland with a total sale price of at least $1 million.

The phony shoes were classified as "polyresin figures," said Richard Vigna, U.S. Customs and Border Protection director of field operations.

The most recent seizure took place May 27, after CBP officials with X-ray devices found $22 million worth of phony products shipped from China earlier in the month.

Advanced X-ray equipment was put in place to survey shipments at the Port of Oakland after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Oakland (Calif.) Tribune said Wednesday.
