McCain campaign claims fundraising lead

WASHINGTON, May 27 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has more campaign cash on-hand than his Democratic rival Barack Obama, a McCain campaign official said Tuesday.

McCain adviser Carly Fiorina said on CNN that at the end of the April, McCain had more than $60 million cash on hand, while Obama had more than $50 million, The Hill reported.

McCain's total includes money that the Republican National Committee has in its bank account.

CNN reported that the RNC has cash advantage over the Democratic National Committee.

Counting just what the candidate have in their bank accounts, Obama had $46 million at the end of April, more than twice the amount of McCain's cash reserves, the newspaper reported.

"We think we have plenty of money to run the campaign we want," said Fiorina, former chairman on computer company Hewlett-Packard.

She noted that even though McCain is raising less than Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, he is not being forced to spend money like the Democrats as they battle for their party's nomination.

"When you're putting together these huge rallies, these very well-orchestrated events, the amount of ad time that the Obama campaign is buying, that takes a lot of money," Fiorina said.
