Guilty plea in theft of historical letters

NEW YORK, May 21 (UPI) -- The former head of a New York historical society pleaded guilty to stealing two letters written by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Edward Renehan was in federal court Tuesday where he admitted he sold the letters for nearly $100,000 after taking them from the Theodore Roosevelt Association on Long Island.

The Post said that while Renehan had no pressing need for money, he had been earlier diagnosed with bipolar disease.
